The mysterious Turnk re-appears and sends Leo on a quest to free the Abyssinian cartographer from Vlad the Impaler - aka - Dracula.
Despite how it may sound - "Dracula" was actually alive during Leonardo's life time. His name stems from being part of the "Order of the Dragon." His reputation stemmed from executing over 80,000 people, in cruel and monstrous ways:
"He let children be roasted; those, their mothers were forced to eat. And (he) cut off the breasts of women; those, their husbands were forced to eat. After that, he had them all impaled."
This episode da Vinci enters his castle as a guest and tricks Dracula and his men into drinking a special alcohol laced with a sleeping potion. This enables him to sneak up to the room that the Cartographer is being held captive in. Actually it's not just a room but a torture device that keeps him in a position reminiscent of the Vitruvian man. After some sword play and fancy pyrotechnics Leo and his companions free the fatally wounded Abyssinian and escape.
Leonardo's goal in getting the cartographer was that he had a map that would lead to the ever elusive - book of Leaves. Unfortunately the map is tattooed on his body and he tells da Vinci that he'll have to cut it off of him once he dies.
There wasn't much to relate to the real life Leonardo in this episode besides the use of the explosive powder he use. Da Vinci gives directions for making it as a party trick - but like they used it in the show, it could have military purposes as well.
